Works on this site are not organised according to the media they use, but according to the number of users who can experience them: sculptures for individuals and small groups, and sculptures for communities. The first category explores light, perception, and the act of seeing itself. The second poses meta-artistic questions: how can a sculpture be created in a dialogical way, and how can such a sculpture directly translate the dialogical processes as they unfold?
His practice unfolds in museums, festivals, and theatres, as well as in schools, neighborhoods, prisons, and factories, ranging from one-time interventions to long-term trajectories. Because relations are essential to his work, the diversity of those relations are defining conditions of the quality of the artwork. Therefore, the activation of these sculptures in contexts where values other than artistic ones (education, play, transport, ...) prevail is essential to the quality of these works. The museum or atelier forms not a preferred locus for creation and presentation over any other place.
Spincemaille’s work operates at the crossroads of people, technology, and nature. It redirects our attention toward the immaterial, human interaction, analog technologies and the sublime in nature.
His work has been exhibited internationally, including at Wiels (Belgium), Kasteel van Gaasbeek (Belgium), Guangzhou Biennale (China), Biennale des Arts Numériques (France), Nova Biennial (Brazil), Ars Electronica (Austria and Tokyo), Boxes Art Museum (China), OK Center (Linz), De Brakke Grond (Amsterdam), Felix De Boeck Museum (Belgium), Opéra de Paris (France), and the Festival de Marseille (France), among others.
His atelier is based in Leuven.
